Geographical Indication Tag (GI Tag)

Pokkali is a unique saline tolerant rice variety grown in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Alappuzha, Kannur and Kottayam districts of Kerala. Due to its geographical specificity Pokkali was conferred the Geographical Indications tag in the year 2008, which confirms the agricultural heritage practises of Pokkali, its sourcing and other unique qualities.
